Laser Tattoo Removal FAQs

Laser Tattoo Removal - Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Newport Tattoo Removal the best choice for tattoo removal?

Newport Tattoo Removal offers FDA-approved PicoSure lasers. Their advanced capabilities provide better results in half the time than the conventional q-switched technology. Newport Tattoo Removal, part of Newport Medical and Wellness, has a staff with extensive laser and aesthetic backgrounds.  Our practitioners are Orange County’s leading aesthetic and laser specialists. The specialists who treat you are not “technicians” but doctors and fully licensed medical practitioners. Their training goes well beyond how to use a machine and is firmly planted in the art of aesthetic medicine.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Your medical professional uses the PicoSure state-of-the-art laser to direct short bursts of light energy at the ink in your tattoo for a fraction of a second.  The laser passes harmlessly through the outer layer of your skin to target the tattoo ink directly without any damage to the surrounding tissue. The laser shatters the ink into smaller particles, that your body absorbs and process naturally through the immune system.

What is the difference between the PicoSure laser and other tattoo removal lasers?

Older lasers use heat to remove tattoos, which can lead to blistering, scabbing, and scarring. PicoSure uses a pressure technology so there is minimal scarring. Older Q-switched lasers fire approximately 1 million times/sec, whereas PicoSure fires 1 trillion times/sec. The rapidness of the firing breaks the ink into much smaller pieces to be ingested by white blood cells and flushed out of your system. The PicoSure laser is also able to treat most skin types/colors without scarring.

Will my tattoo be gone after the first treatment?

Most tattoos require multiple treatments for full removal. During your free consultation at Newport Tattoo Removal you’ll meet with one of our specialists who will give you an accurate understanding of how many treatments it will take to remove your tattoo to the fullest extent.

How long will each tattoo removal session take?

On average, a treatment takes a few minutes to complete, depending on the complexity and size of your tattoo.  Larger, full coverage tattoos will take a little longer, but Newport Tattoo Removal will have you in and out of our office before you know it.

Will I see reduction in my tattoo after each treatment?

Each person and every tattoo is unique, and thus everyone responds to laser tattoo removal treatments differently. Most people will notice distinct visual changes with every treatment, while some people may not see much change for a few treatments. When you follow our specialists’ advice, you ensure yourself the best results as soon as possible.

How long will it take to completely remove my tattoo?

Using the advanced PicoSure laser technology, most tattoos are removed in as few as five visits, with sessions scheduled six to eight weeks apart. Newport Tattoo Removal laser professionals will create a personalized treatment plan for you. The specific characteristics of your skin and your tattoo factor into the extent of treatments and will be discussed with you so your expectations are fully met.

Can I do my treatments sooner than every 6 to 8 weeks to get it all done quicker?

A minimum of six to eight weeks between treatments is recommended to give you the best results. The PicoSure laser fragments the ink in your tattoo so that your body’s immune system can finish the removal process, and this takes time. When your tattoo is exposed to laser treatments too frequently, the risk of discoloration and scarring increases greatly rather than shortening the time of removal.

Will my tattoo be fully removed?

Most tattoos can be entirely removed using our PicoSure laser.  Some tattoos and skin types are present more difficulties for tattoo removal. Our professionals are fully transparent and up front about what level of removal is most likely for your tattoo.

Can all types of tattoos be removed?

Thanks to the advanced PicoSure laser by Cynosure and the laser experts at Newport Tattoo Removal even the more challenging tattoo colors can be removed. In the past it would have been impossible to eliminate all colors from the skin.  Even if you’ve tried tattoo removal before but had poor results our new PicoSure laser will fix those tattoo removal errors as well!

Can all of the colors be removed from my tattoo?

Newport Tattoo Removal can remove most colors completely. Some colors may require more treatments than other colors. However, even the most challenging colors will usually fade to a point where they’re nearly impossible to see.

How painful is laser tattoo removal?

Keeping pain to a minimum is very important to Newport Tattoo Removal. While pain tolerance is different for each individual, tattoo removal treatments can be uncomfortable, but they are easily tolerable. They are also completed very quickly.  Some people compare our tattoo removal to having a tattoo applied, but for very shorter period of time. To reduce pain during and after the procedure we use a prescription strength topical anesthetic cream to numb the skin.

What should I expect at my consultation?

Each patient receives a personalized plan with the clinical care a medical procedure requires. Our professionally trained staff will guide you through a process that is far easier than you may expect. We provide absolutely clear expectations. Before we begin, you will know how it works and what you can expect.

Is there any special care I need to take after laser tattoo removal treatments?

After treatment you can resume most of your usual activities as long as the treated area is not scratched or rubbed. You should avoid any sun exposure to the treated area (by covering the treated area when you’re in the sun) until your skin has healed. Be sure to follow your treating specialist’s instructions, keeping in mind that these instructions may vary from one treatment to another. Complete post-treatment care instructions will be given you at your removal appointment.

Can just parts of tattoos be removed?

Certainly! The PicoSure laser is extremely accurate. We often remove just part of a tattoo so that you can have it redone correctly and have it look the way it should have to begin with.

Will tattoo removal give me a scar where the tattoo was?

When you follow your specialist’s aftercare instructions, the chances of scarring are nearly nonexistent. However if you have any preexisting scarring (for example, if the tattoo artist who initially inked you had a heavy hand and scratched your skin too deeply or have had previous unsuccessful tattoo removal treatments) those scars will remain as our lasers only remove ink, not scars.

Can I afford Newport Tattoo Removal?

We have professional tattoo removal packages & payment plans designed to fit nearly any budget. Newport Tattoo Removal will work their hardest to deliver expert tattoo removal at a price you can afford.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

Tattoo removal at Newport Tattoo Removal is more affordable than most people think! Cost is based on how large your tattoo is.  When you come in, we will measure your tattoo in square inches which will determine the cost per treatment. During your consultation, we will also estimate how many treatments you need depending on your goals (fading or complete removal). When you purchase a package of treatments for complete removal, you will receive a discount of up to 25% off. Please review our Pricing Information page for additional information. For an accurate and official price quote, please make an appointment to visit Newport Tattoo Removal for a free consultation.

How large is a square inch?

A square inch is approximately the size of the average postage stamp. To figure out the size of your particular tattoo, we measure the length and the width of the ink and multiply those numbers together to determine the total square inches. Note that many people greatly overestimate the cost of their tattoo removal when they measure it at home! We highly encourage you to come in for a free consultation so we can determine the actual cost of removal and you can make an informed decision of how to proceed.

Can I purchase just one tattoo removal treatment at a time?

Yes, you can purchase one treatment at a time. However there are some advantages to buying a package.

1. You’ll save up to 25% off the total cost when you buy a package for the total number of treatments recommended by your specialist.
2. Not many tattoos will be able to be removed in only one or two visits and having a slightly faded tattoo where you want no tattoo is a constant reminder of an incomplete job.
3. You save a lot of time. Our history shows that patients are more likely to appear for their treatments when they’ve paid for them in advance. When you show up for all of your scheduled appointments, your tattoo gets removed in less total time than when you don’t show up regularly.
4. Our package pricing can be paid in monthly installments to reduce any upfront costs you may be worried about.
